Science Museum - 21 March 2013

The trip as seen through the eyes of the children!

Class 1 (Sam, Wilf & Tirian)
We saw a Ford upsidedown.  We saw a 'taking apart a car' film.  We loved the Science Museum because it was fun when we saw moving ploughing tractors in sand that was brown.  The TV was excellent on the bus.  We saw 'Flushed Away' and something else.

The car on the ceiling!

Class 2 (Ellie)
When we went to the Science Museum in London, we first went to the space section.  We saw the food that astronauts have to eat, it looked horrible!!!  We were all really excited to go to London for the day.  The whole school enjoyed the trip over all.  In part of the museum there was a place called 'launch pad' that you could have a go with all the equipment and test things.  Absolutely everyone enjoyed the trip.

Unable to avoid the temptation of  'DO NOT TOUCH'!!

Class 3 (William)
On Thursday 21st  March Charsfield and Dennington schools went to London to go to the Science Museum.  It was a long journey but we got there about 11 o'clock.
My favourite bit was the launch pad because it had lots of things to do and touch.  There were two rooms altogether, both full of activities to learn from.  My favourite bit was where there was a metal pole going sideways and there were lots of straws and you put a straw on the pole, bit into it, closed your ears with your fingers and then you should hear music.  You can play music with your teeth.

At McDonalds - what the children were most looking forward to really!!

Flowers out of clay

In Class 2 Science this term we have been having a really good look at the parts of a plant. We designed our own and modelled them out of clay.  Here are just a few of them:

These gorgeous flowers are going home, to be given as presents for Mothering Sunday.  Aren't they lovely!?

Looking for Spring!

As part of their science lesson, Class 3 has been looking at lifecycles.  Today they went outside to 'look for Spring' and we are pleased to announce that Spring has arrived!!

The boys were particularly excited to find skulls and bones!  They took some great photos in the churchyard and in the fields surrounding the school.

Here are just a few:

Science and DT Day at Thomas Mills

Once again our thanks go out to the organisers of another brilliant day at Thomas Mills. We learnt a lot about the science behind our favourite circus acts from Mr. Halls, like the tight rope walk, high dive and our favourite, the human cannon ball! With Mr. G. we made our own tight rope walkers in the DT rooms, using loads of cool tools!

Kaleidoscopes

Class 2 have made these wonderful Kaleisoscopes! We took a Pringles tube, (other tubes of crisps are available!), did some clever cutting and sticking, added some mirror card, in the shape of a triangular prism and a set of really good instructions to follow! We were all really pleased with the results!

Making the Planets

Class 1 have spent quite a while making the planets in our solar system out of paper mache for a classroom display. It has been hard work, but we are really pleased with the results.

Baking Bread

Class 3 have been looking into Micro-organisms with Mrs. Merry in Science and last week we were looking at good microbes. This was brilliant as it gave us a really good excuse to bake some bread whilst looking at yeast!

Transformations

Class 1 have some caterpillars that they will be keeping a close eye on. Here is Rose showing one of the caterpillars which has already more than doubled in size in the last week! We are all looking forward to seeing them transform into beautiful butterflies.
